CMS TECHNOLOGIES ABLE TO DETER MOST LAPTOP COMPUTER THEFTS WITH EtherLock® SYSTEM

EtherLock® Secures Laptop Computers via LAN-based notification system

CHICAGO, IL (May 2, 2000 ) Responding to recent news reports detailing the theft of a State Department laptop computer containing top secret data, CMS Technologies' Chief Executive Officer & President, John Austermann, indicated most laptop thefts can be prevented using the CMS Technologiesies EtherLock System.

"With the EtherLock system in place laptop computers can be protected simply by plugging them into a local area network, even with a fifty foot cord. Any unauthorized disconnection is detected in real-time. Disconnection can  trigger sound alarms, activate pagers, send e-mail notices, or even send cellular messages." Says Austermann, "Our system might have prevented the scenario the FBI is now trying to unravel."

Austermann says "CMS Technologies' EtherLock system utilizes existing Local Area Network (LAN) wiring to "alarm" both desktop and laptop computers in the same fashion as closed-circuit burglar alarms. Employees who carry laptop computers to and from their offices can use CMS Technologies' inControl™ software to release and re-engage their laptops at the same or differing ethernet ports using a password."

NoteLOCK™, a peripheral component of the EtherLock system attaches to the Universal Security Slot (USS) on laptop computers. When an ethernet cable is passed through the opening of the bracket, connecting the cable to a network card or adapter device allows CMS Technologies' EtherLock system to protect the asset. NoteLOCK cannot be removed from the laptop, nor the laptop disconnected from the network without alerting the system. EtherLock immediately notifies security personnel if someone disconnects the cable in an unauthorized attempt to move a laptop computer.

EtherLock, NoteLOCK, and inControl are integral components of CMS Technologies' overall eConnectivity™ solution. EConnectivity solutions  provide physical and real-time PC Security, Asset Control, and Connectivity Control of assets attached to Local Area Networks including monitoring, discovering and reporting all networked assets status, their physical location, and their current “owner”.

EtherLock systems have been installed at numerous government facilities, major university campuses, automotive manufacturing plants and corporate environments nationwide.

Pricing and Availability

The EtherLock system is available immediately from CMS Technologies and its authorized reseller and integration partners. Pricing for a complete asset control platform averages $2 per PC per month for a standard 36-month asset life cycle.
